When we talk about media literacy, we are talking about:
Critical thinking skills
The media continually teach our children about the world in which
they live. Experts now believe that children learn more from media than
from the family, school, community, and faith organizations combined!
It’s time to teach our young people to consider the many media options
available to them with critical eyes and ears.
Creative possibilities
In this 21st century world, more of us have opportunities to make
our own media from web pages to movies. Technology once available
only to the pros is now readily accessible through our schools, libraries,
local organizations and yes, even in our own homes.
Media literacy is not only about learning to use the technology but it
is also about finding your own distinct voice and using it to communicate
to the world.
Technical know-how
The first step is learning to use the tools—e.g. computers, the Web,
digital cameras, VCRs, CDs, DVDs and don’t forget writing!
